Who built the first log cabin? The Finns, in 1638, introduced log building to American. FINNISH LOG CONSTRUCTION-THE ART, explains how the Finns brought with them their unique techniques of log construction, first to the New Sweden Colony in the 1600's and then throughout America when they immigrated in the 1900's.

Their work differed from that of other groups and what is typically labeled "American" log building. This book tells their story and explains the techniques, how they were different and shows numerous examples what still remains as monuments to these early Finns.

Written by renown preservationist and educator Frank Eld, from Roseberry, Idaho. Frank has worked for over 40 years to preserve his Finnish heritage.
